These are some of the paintings I have produced over the years. My forays into art can best be described as spasmodic and largely frustrating, but I stick at it because they say painting is therapeutic. They also say it's relaxing (they are wrong).

TMS Xmas Card '97

This is a fragment of the Christmas card I designed for The Mandelbrot Set (TMS) for 1997. It's all done electronically, and, since I thought it was quite interesting, you can have a look at how I did it.

How I got my Blue Peter badge...

how do they do that?

Star Bug

This is the first painting I ever did. It was inspired by the comic book 'So Beautiful and So Dangerous' by Angus McKie, which was later featured in the movie Heavy Metal. I painted this on the knobbly side of a sheet of hardboard, because that's the way one of my favourite painters, Peter Jones, did it. It was also painted with Airfix enamels, because that's what I had! You may be able to detect subtle application of my new Badger airbrush.

This is the only painting I have ever sold - I swapped it for a pair of headphones.

Psycho

A groovy self-portrait, but very easy to do. I made this electronically from a photograph with a combination of Fractal Design Painter, Kai's Power Tools and Paintshop Pro.

Picture

SoHo Square

One end of my bachelor pad at some point in history, at which time it also doubled as my office. Watercolour and ink.

Bassenthwaite

A nice bit of perspective leading into Bassenthwaite lake in the Lake District. Water-soluble graphite.

Picture

Canalside

A watercolour sketch of my nephew & sister walking by the Monmouthshire & Brecon Canal. I can look at watercolour paintings all day; I just wish I could make them.

Chainsaw Bunny

A scene from the long-forgotten 'Twilight Zone' movie (the one that killed Vic Morrow and nearly sent John Landis to prison). I painted this in acrylics on a canvas panel.

Picture

F-18 Nose Gear

SKETCHED FROM a full-scale model (of the whole aircraft, not just the gear) at Universal Studios, Hollywood. This model was featured in the movie 'Independence Day'.

Cuckoo's Nest

ANOTHER acrylic painting, copied from a photo of Jack Nicholson in One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. People thought this was airbrushed, but it wasn't. I think I drew too many teeth.

I am not Chris Foss

A rather cringe-worthy attempt at a sci-fi painting. This was about my number three painting, done in knobbly hardboard with airfix paints and an airbrush for the clouds.

Nicky

A fairly recent sketch. This was done very quickly with poster paints while I was with a group of kids who were painting each other.

Rena's Teddy

A friend's teddy bear, painted as a Christmas present. I like to do these watercolour sketches of teddies and toys, and it's always nicer when they're treasured ones. This teddy was well scruffy!

Hard & Soft Toys

Some more toys. The dog was a squeaky rubber thing, and the frog was a wooden toy that was pulled along by a string. Both came from a family centre in London.

The rabbit and sheep below are a couple of toys that for years have sat on top of my TV. This has taken on a sort of Escher-esque quality, as I now have the painting on the wall behind the TV, with a photo of the whole lot off to one side.
