Perhaps it's surprising that a shoestring Film Four 'mockumentary' can so decisively trounce big-budget films like A.I. and Planet
Of The Apes, but trounce them it does. It's often said that there's nothing new under the sun, but if we can't help but notice echoes of Frances McDormand in the gun-toting and heavily-pregnant protagonist Dawn, this
satirical extrapolation of American reality TV goes more credibly where tawdry B-movies like Death Race 2000 and The Running Man have gone before. If there's anything that lets the film down it's that the violence is
rather too sanitised to make this a truly disturbing film.. |
