Postcards from the Whale

One day last summer I spotted a tractor dragging around a felled tree in my local park. Over the next couple of days the tree was hoisted onto its stump and attacked with chainsaws to produce this rather cute life-sized carving of a whale! The carving was officially unveiled in a candle-lit ceremony the following week.

These pictures were taken just after Christmas 2000. The camera was a Nikon D1 and the first two are made from multiple images stitched together in Photoshop.

The whale carving is in Gladstone Park, in the London borough of Brent.
